Valentine's Day Party IdeasDecorating | Activities | Games | Valentine Snack Ideas Valentine Party Decorating Ideas:
The following ideas - thanks to: Everything Elementary Valentine Party Activities and CraftsChildren look forward to the games and activities as much as they anticipate the treats at a holiday party! Many of the ideas that follow are simple to execute, and are guaranteed to please. When planning a classroom party for younger children (under 10), or if you are working with a limited amount of time, we recommend you divide your activities into "stations". Recruit enough parents/helpers to work at each station, and divide the children into small groups-four to five in each group works best. Have the party guests spend no more than 10-15 minutes at a station, then ring a bell and have everyone rotate. HEARTS, HEARTS AND MORE HEARTS! - Cut heart shapes out of clean kitchen sponges and use them to stamp red, pink or purple hearts on inexpensive white t-shirts. Ask each parent to contribute $2.00 for the supplies. Provide each child with a piece of waxed paper, paper towel, and a small amount of acrylic fabric paint. Dip the heart sponge into the paint, and then lightly sponge onto the paper towel a couple of times to remove excess paint. Craft stores carry pre-cut heart shaped sponges, but the kitchen sponges create a really interesting pattern. The same sponges can be used prior to the party to decorate plain napkins, goody bags, plate edges, streamers, and paper tablecloths. With minimal effort, you'll get lots of ooohs and aaahs! FUN FRAMES - - Nothing could be sweeter to give or receive than a framed picture of a loved one on Valentine's Day. For each child, you'll need a clear plastic acrylic frame, a supply of candy conversation hearts and some tacky glue. Glue the candy hearts to the outside edge of the frame, and allow time for the glue to dry. Large quantities are even less expensive. As an alternative to using candy hearts, cut shapes out of pink and red fun foam and glue them to the frame. Take pictures of each child with a digital camera and have developed ahead of time. Allow students to take home a frame filled with a precious picture to give as a gift. LUV BUGS - Make adorable bugs out of red and pink pom poms (3/4" - 1 ½" size), red and pink pipe cleaners (bend to create antennae), wiggle eyes, and fun foam cut in the shape of hearts for wings. Fill a small baggie for each child with assorted goodies, provide the glue, and let them be creative! For a fun touch, add a piece of magnetic tape to the back of each bug.an adorable fridge magnet! SUGAR COOKIE FUN! - This activity can do double duty - when kids are finished decorating the cookies, they can eat them as a snack! Have a station set up with plenty of sugar cookies cut out in hearts or cupid shapes. On each individual plate, place one cookie and a plastic knife. Provide pink and white frosting, sprinkles, red hots, red shoestring licorice and other goodies. VALENTINE CARD EXCHANGE - Of course! Have each student decorate paper bags with heart shapes cut from construction paper. Do this in advance and have bags displayed in classroom. When students bring in their cards have them deliver them to proper bag or have one student or teacher helper "deliver" the cards. Each student can then take their bag home at the end of the party. Valentine Party Game IdeasBROKEN HEARTS - Divide kids into two equal groups. Place two bags of inflated heart shaped balloons about 10-15 yards away. The balloons should be overinflated to make popping easier. At the sound of a whistle, the first two relay contestants, (one from each team) run to the bag, and remove one balloon heart. Each must sit on it until it pops. Once the heart is broken, the players run back to the starting line, and tag the next player in line. The first team to complete the course wins. Not a quiet game.but a guaranteed favorite! HEARTS AFIRE! - Using a stuffed or balloon heart as your blazingly hot heart, play this Valentine variation on the classic Hot Potato game. Have players sit in a circle, and pass the heart until the music stops. The player left holding the heart when the music stops is out. Keep passing the heart until only one player is left. CANDY COUNT - Fill a glass jar with red hot hearts or conversation hearts, and let each child guess how many hearts are in the jar. The student with the closest guest wins the jar! Valentine Snack IdeasSNACK IDEAS - The following snacks are easy to make, and many are simple enough for children to make. Some can do double duty, and work well as table decorations or crafts.and then eaten later as a party snack. SHE LOVES ME, SHE LOVES ME KNOT - What you'll need: 10-oz. Bag of pretzel twists (large or small), 7-oz. bag of white chocolate chips, and Valentine sprinkles. Melt the candy chips in the microwave, stirring frequently. Dip the pretzels into the melted white chocolate, and top with Valentine sprinkles. Place the dipped pretzels onto waxed paper, and place in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens. These "love knots" are easy to make and delicious! HEARTS! HEARTS! HEARTS! - Make sandwiches using favorite ingredients, and cut out hearts using full-sized metal Valentine heart cookie cutters. For a healthier classroom party cut lots of different foods into heart shapes using a variety of heart sizes! Try watermelon, white block cheese, or a block of cream cheese for a dip, (cover with raspberry jam or salsa and serve with crackers) as they cut well and look terrific!
