Christmas Holiday Entertaining Ideas

<< Christmas Store

The most important tip for holiday entertaining is to plan ahead. My essential stress-less tool is my LIST! I make a Menu List, Grocery List, "To-Do" List...you've got the idea! A list helps you keep focused and there is less chance of forgetting something.

Below are a few holiday entertaining tips plus a few of my favorite Christmas recipes.

Holiday Party Ideas

Everyone goes to many Christmas parties through-out the month of December. You may want to consider something different for yours. Below are a couple of ideas:

Cookie Exchange Party
This event is a favorite for Women's Clubs or neighborhood friends. Invite guest to bring 3 dozen of their favorite homemade cookies, extra copies of their recipe and an extra cookie tin or container. Set out some of each kind of cookie to sample. Provide hot chocolate, spiced cider and coffee. Everyone gets to take a variety of cookies home and some new recipes. This gives everyone more time to visit and less time baking! As a party favor...send everyone home with a cookie cutter!

Movie Party
Treat everyone to a relaxing evening watching old classic movies. Serve popcorn, movie-style candy and soft drinks. Your family and friends will love it!

Holiday Food

First a few Garnishing Tips!
Even the plainest dish can be made festive with a simple garnish!

For Desserts:
Place a stencil on the cake plate and sprinkle powdered sugar, cinnamon or cocoa over it to make a design on the plate.

Shave chocolate or coconut with a cheese grater and sprinkle shavings on top of cakes, pies or cupcakes.

Use a pastery bag to pipe icing or whipped topping around edges of cakes and pies.

Use a cookie cutter to make a design in the top of pie crust.

Drizzle chocolate or vanilla icing over pasteries, pies, cakes or cookies. Use contrasting or seasonal colors.

Salads and Vegetable Dishes:
Decorate with some type of contrasting herb or nuts. Parsley on top of potatos, paprica on top of deviled eggs and potato salad, etc. Make up your own ideas using an ingredient already in the dish. For example carrot curls, cherry tomatoes, and radish roses.

Favorite Christmas Recipes

Holiday food is always special. Sometimes it consist of recipes handed down for generations and brings back memories of Christmas past. Sometimes it's something new...making it's very first "fond memory".
